  • The starting point & challenges
Among its many areas of expertise, SPIE designs, installs, operates, and maintains technical infrastructure — including civil engineering, HVAC, automated systems, networks, telecommunications, security, and industrial systems — for the construction, industrial, and energy sectors, as well as local authorities.

In 2023, as part of its operations, SPIE acquired a VDI platform equipped with NVIDIA switches running Cumulus 5.0. A perfect choice, except for one thing… SPIE doesn’t operate NVIDIA equipment and lacks the in-house expertise to manage it.
On NVIDIA’s recommendation, SPIE turned to the IT Lumberjacks to manage the equipment.

  • The goal & the plan
The infrastructure is already in place, and the target has been defined. The next step is to integrate the equipment into Mountain Men’s management infrastructure. To optimize the solution, Mountain Men carries out a rapid infrastructure audit to identify critical points.

The Mountain Men solution: deploy a dedicated out-of-band (OOB) network with an integrated management solution based on Opengear (OOBaaS). The goal is to maintain control under all circumstances — even in the event of a major outage — while ensuring the highest possible level of security.
Mountain Men then integrates the equipment into its monitoring and observability tools, enabling proactive management of its lifecycle and ensuring it continues to operate properly.
  • Build
With the solution approved, the IT Lumberjacks grab their axes and get to work deploying a turnkey OOB solution—and, most importantly, integrating it into SPIE’s infrastructure.
With a little extra spice: stringent security requirements.

This crucial step is carried out in close collaboration with the SPIE team, ensuring a smooth deployment and seamless integration into the existing environment. Mountain Men then integrates the equipment into its monitoring and management tools, enabling proactive lifecycle management and day-to-day operational oversight.
